About Walsall Bereavement Support Service

Walsall Bereavement Support Service (WBSS) is dedicated to providing compassionate support to bereaved adults, children, and young people in Walsall. Founded in June 1996, WBSS initially focused on befriending elderly individuals but has since expanded its services to meet the growing demand for bereavement support across all age groups. The organization offers a safe and confidential environment where individuals can express their grief, thoughts, and feelings, ultimately helping them develop constructive tools to process their experiences and begin rebuilding their lives.

WBSS employs a person-centred approach, ensuring that each individual receives tailored support that meets their unique needs. The service is committed to reducing the long-term negative impacts of bereavement on physical health, mental health, relationships, education, and employment. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, WBSS adapted its services to continue providing support through telephone and video link, alongside in-person appointments, ensuring accessibility for all.

The organization offers a range of services, including individual and group support for bereaved adults and children aged 5-17 through their specialized program known as The Swing. WBSS also provides outreach support in local communities across Walsall, promoting public awareness of bereavement and training organizations to better support their colleagues during times of loss.
