The Outdoor Sauna & Spa is a wood-fired woodland spa nestled in the peaceful surroundings of Candleston Woods — a 100-acre woodland just a stone's throw from the sand dunes and village of Merthyr Mawr, Bridgend.
At its heart is a traditional Lithuanian-made, wood-fired sauna with a panoramic window looking out across the beautiful woodland, immersing you in nature as you bathe in the heat. Just a few steps away, an off-grid wood-fired hot tub sits nestled amongst the trees — relax in the warm water as birds sing around you, tilt your head back to take in the treescape above, and you might even spot deer running past.
Every session includes cold water facilities — a cold shower, drench bucket and cold plunge tub — so you can experience the benefits of hot and cold contrast therapy at your own level of chill. The woodland setting adds something more: grounding and physically connecting with nature has a widely recognised positive impact on mind and body.
Sessions are flexible to suit everyone. Choose a private woodland spa experience for groups of up to ten, or book an individual spot in a communal session and share the spa with fellow bathers. We offer a wood-fired sauna, wood-fired hot tub, and cold water immersion options including cold water plunge baths, a cold shower, and a drench bucket. You can enjoy these facilities as part of private sessions, communal experiences, or group bookings.
Do you offer private sessions, or is it communal only?
We offer both! You can book a private sauna and hot tub session (available in 55-minute or 90-minute options), or join our 55-minute communal woodland spa where you can book an individual spot. Private sessions are also available for groups of up to 8 people.
What wellness activities do you offer beyond the sauna?
In addition to sauna and thermal experiences, we offer weekly Sunday morning yoga classes with an instructor and group spa days. These combine our outdoor facilities with guided wellness activities.
Can I book a session for a group?
Yes, we offer private sauna and hot tub sessions for groups of up to 8 people, as well as group spa day experiences. You can also join our communal 55-minute woodland spa sessions by booking an individual spot.
