About Luton Aikido Club

Aikido is a unique Japanese martial art that focuses on self-defense through the control and neutralization of an attacker. The Luton Aikido Club, one of the longest-established clubs of its kind in Britain, offers an engaging environment for individuals to learn this art form. Founded in 1977 by Mrs. Ros Loft, who has been practicing Aikido since 1973, the club is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and commitment to teaching traditional Aikido techniques. Under Mrs. Loft's guidance, who holds a 6th Dan Black Belt, members are introduced to the principles of Aikido, which emphasizes balance, control, and technique over brute strength, making it accessible to both men and women of all sizes.

The club's approach to Aikido is rooted in tradition, while also incorporating modern adaptations developed by Akira Fujimori Sensei, a highly respected figure in the martial arts community. The training sessions are designed to foster a supportive and relaxed environment, allowing students to learn at their own pace. Members benefit from the expertise of Black Belts and senior students who guide them through various techniques, including wrist locks and throws, which have been refined over hundreds of years. The ethos of the club is non-profit, ensuring that all members can train without hidden costs, making it an affordable option for those interested in martial arts.

Luton Aikido Club offers regular training sessions on Sundays from 1 PM to 3 PM, Wednesdays from 8 PM to 10 PM, and Thursdays from 8 PM to 10 PM. New members are welcomed from the age of 18, with the first session free of charge. Following a few weeks of training, participants can register for low-cost insurance, which is essential for ongoing participation. The club does not impose a joining fee, and all gradings are free, allowing members to progress without financial barriers. This structure encourages a diverse range of individuals to explore Aikido, regardless of their previous experience.

Located at Holy Trinity Church Hall in Limbury, Luton, the club is easily accessible for local residents. The Luton Aikido Club is dedicated to helping individuals build confidence, improve self-defense skills, and engage in a fulfilling physical activity. Whether you are looking to learn self-defense, improve fitness, or simply enjoy a new hobby, the Luton Aikido Club provides a welcoming space to start your journey in martial arts.
