About Harpenden J K A Karate Club Within Batford Methodist Church

Harpenden J K A Karate Club offers traditional Shotokan karate training for children from age 5, teenagers, and adults. As proud members of the JKA (Japan Karate Association), the club is committed to keeping karate's highest tradition alive through structured, progressive instruction.

Training encompasses three core elements: basic techniques, kumite (sparring), and kata (choreographed forms). Beginners' classes provide a welcoming entry point for all ages and experience levels, allowing students to build foundational skills and confidence at their own pace. The club also offers self-defence classes, helping students develop practical awareness and techniques for personal safety in challenging situations.

Progress is marked through regular grading opportunities, which take place twice a year on Saturdays, giving students clear milestones and motivation as they advance through the belt system.

Whether you're looking to develop martial arts skills, build fitness and discipline, or learn practical self-defence, Harpenden J K A Karate Club provides authentic Shotokan training rooted in JKA tradition for the whole family.
